Ross "Da Boss" Ebanez is a heavy handed fighter who trains with BJ Penn. He is a true ambassador to Hawaii Mixed Martial Arts and has shown his support by coming to the last Kauai MMA show. Ross has fought fighters who have had much more experience than him because he likes the challenge and BJ Penn believes strongly in his student's skills. Ross's aggressive style has made him one of Hawaii's fans favorites. When he is not fighting he is an affable guy and hangs out with some of the Kauai Jiu-Jitsu students when he is on the island.
Here is a short interview with "Da Boss"
KMA Talk about your training, how often do you train and what do you focus on?
Ebanez-Well right now just cruising and partying Ha ha ha. I just taking it
easy
but i still train at least 3 times a week since I came back from my last
fight with Brian Gassaway. I had a huge cut from a head-butt on my eye and
its almost done healing. But when its getting ready for a fight I train
hard five times a week 2 days all stand up, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai
stuff you know.. and 2 days all ground stuff and the fifth day is the
sparring day. Conditioning is the main thing though with out it I don't care
how good you are, with out it an average Joe will make you look stupid in
there.
KMA-How long have you been training?
Ebanez-Well I been doing stand up stuff from a little kid and training ground
with BJ, his brothers, Charuto and the rest of the boys about 7-8 years now.
So pretty much well rounded
KMA-Do you have a regular job?
Ebanez-Yes, Construction.. I work for sun industries.. We put up guard rails and
street signs around the highways. I believe we have a office in Kauai.
KMA-What are your goals in fighting.
Ebanez-My goals, is to see how far I can get until I get smashed completely then
I'll think about it. But at least be a champ in any organization and be
known as one of the top guys from Hawaii at 170. If I don't go to the UFC I
don't care. I'll fight in the Rumble anytime, its becoming the other top
show in the U.S. and still growing.. I'll fight in Japan though that's where
the moneys at!!!LOL
Interview with Ross "Da Boss" Ebanez
KMA-What do you think of your fight with Dennis Hallman.
Ebanez-That fight. He was the 6th opponent they had for me, everyone kept pulling
out after agreeing to fight. Dennis didn't want to come down to my usual
fight weight at 170. So I spot him at 180 my walk around weight when he
was walks around at 190-95.I Could have beat him, he didn't want no part of
my stand up game. He took me down with a quick shot, then I made the
biggest mistake ever by turning to get up and he took my back, a mistake I
Never do in all my life training. Don't know why I did that but you learn
from things like that. lol
KMA-Did you see Ray Cooper or Niko Vitale win recently? If so what are
your thoughts on the fights?
Ebanez-Yeah. Good for both of them. I knew braddah would over power Franca and you
know he punches hard at 170 so at 155 he's a beast.
KMA-Anything else you want to say to your fans in Hawaii?
Ebanez-Thanks for supporting me, the sport, and the Rumble on the Rocks..For those
of you thinking about fighting, if you got the heart and the balls watch
for the Proving Grounds get on that card. Its a smaller show than the
rumble but its the Qualifier to the big show "Rumble on the Rocks" in
Oahu. Keep training and maybe I'll see you guys when I Party in
Kauai. Laters...OUT
