Interview with Pono Pananganan
This week I talked briefly to Pono Pananganan, the Sensei for Kauai Technical Inc. He just started the school but they are already winning some gold off island.
KMA-Where is your Dojo? We are located in Lihue.
Pono-What days are you open? Mon. /Wed. /Fri. nights
KMA-What do you train in? Gi, No gi, MMA, boxing? I train jiu-jitsu, Gi and no
Gi
KMA-What is your philosophy in training? I heard that you are not
motivated by making money for training.
Pono-Our philosophy toward training is, family and personal life first, jiu-jitsu
second! You must take care of your priorities before you can fully consentrate on training. Most people that train have other responsibilities,
so I try to teach that we must have our priorities in the right order. Thats my main focus.
I believe that when your motivation for teaching is driven by money, you become blinded by it, and forget why you love the martial art. This is not
about making money, it’s about helping other people reach a spiritual level in their life and to help them to become better people through training.
KMA-What sets your Dojo apart from the other clubs?
Pono-In our Dojo, everyone has shown great love for the school. No one puts
themselves before the team. I really look up to my KTI family for the way they hold themselves. I would like to thank them publicly for there
dedication to the class.
I would like to thank Relson, Team HK, Casca Grossa, Ron, Kuks, and Kaleo for all their help.
And I also can't forget to Thank my Family at Ka-mole for supporting me.
Thank you Eric for having me.
