KMA-So KJ you not only got
signed to fight on Showtime's Pro new MMA show Pro Elite but I also
heard you got signed to Showtime's Pro Boxing.
How do you feel about that?
KJ-I'm just super pumped up and ready to fight. It's been a lot of hard
training and putting in years to get where I'm at. I'm just ready to
show
everybody what type of fighter I am.
KMA-Are you going to change your nick name to Mr.
Showtime?
KJ-Haha, no, not anytime soon.
KMA-The rumor is you have heavy hands, which is
no surprise considering your boxing background, other people have
proclaimed that your hands are among the best in MMA. Care to weigh in
on those rumors?
KJ-I wouldn't say the best, but when you start boxing at 8 years old and
you grow up in Hawaii and always getting in scraps growing up, I'd say
you better keep your hands up when I'm fighting you.
KMA-Today in MMA a lot of fans are starting to
complain that fighters tend to fight not to lose rather than fight to
win. None of your MMA
fights have gone the distance. You have lost only one MMA fight as
far as I know. Do you consciously try to push fights for the fans or
is your habit of finishing fights just a result of your style?
KJ-I love to knock people out. I never go into a fight trying to win,
the only result I want is to knock the other opponent out cold! That's
my style.
KMA-From what I read Showtime's show tends to
encourage action, there was also some talk on the internet about the 15
second standups if ground fighters are not busy. What do you think
about this, do you think this plays into your style?
KJ-My style is definitley stand up, but no I don't think it plays to my
style. I think it's more on the lines of if you don't do anything on the
ground it needs to be standed up. A lot of people just wanna lay on
eachother and not fight. I think the rule just makes the fighters be
more active.
KMA-Everyone knows that your hands are deadly, you have also KO'ed
Bryson Kamaka who is a good striker with a kick. How do you rate your
kicks?
KJ-I think my kicks are a lot better than my hands. I would like to
fight in K-1 max some day.
KMA-How would you rank your ground game and
takedown defense?
KJ-I would rate both as good. I'm not the best at it, but I'm training
to be.
KMA-If you could make the same money doing only
one sport which would you choose and why?
KJ-Come on, being from Kona, surfing of course.
KMA-Training for Boxing and MMA is different,
where do you get the time to get all this training in?
KJ-This is my job and my life. I put in as many hours as anybody would
at a normal job, except when your putting on a suit and tie, I'm putting
on my gloves and mouthpiece.
KMA-Anything you want to say to your Hawaii fans?
KJ-I've fought around the world and without any doubt in my mind, the
Hawaiian fans are the best and most fun to fight for and in front of.
Thanks for all the support.
