Interview with Kaleo Kwan

KMA-You had a war with X1 Lightweight champion "Sugar"
Shane Nelson. A
lot of people feel you won the fight. Take us through the fight, do
you think you won
Kaleo-I was really surprised with the judges decision I know without a
doubt I won that fight. Nothing against Shane, he fought his heart out
but he did not win that fight. I basically stuffed all his takedowns
except one and I think he might of hit me two or three times during
the whole fight. he attempted a heel hook which i escaped during the
second round. I landed more and cleaner strikes on the ground and
standing. but you know the old saying, "Never leave it in the hands
of the judges" especially when there's a buy 1 mai tai, get 2 mai
tai`s, drink special going on ringside...just joking judges jus joking
KMA-Would you like a rematch?
Kaleo-I wanted a rematch right there.lol But ultimatly it was my fault I
should of finished that fight.I`m thinking he won`t want the rematch
but since it was such a contraversial call the promoters will make it
happen. I think we gotta start a petition on all the hawaii mma sites
for the rematch."How many people wanna see the Kwan vs.Nelson
rematch"haha
KMA-Did fighting in a ring affect the fight one way or
another? Would you
prefer a rematch in a cage or ring?
Kaleo-It didn't make a differance to me ring or cage. Where ever the rematch
happens is all good with me ,just as long as it happens.
KMA-Do you have any other planned future fights? Any
big fights on Elite XC?
Kaleo-I'll be fighting in march on the ICON card. I don't know any details
yet we're still waiting. As for Elite XC no word from them yet on any
up coming shows, they wanted me to fight Joe Boxer in the Main Event
on there King of the Cage show but it was the same night as this X1
fight. I'm gonna stay busy this year and fight as much as i can.
KMA-Even though you lost the judges decision in this
fight you fought a
very tough fighter well and you stuck to a smarter game plan. Do you
feel you have turned a corner in your pro fighting career?
Kaleo-Every fight is a learning experience for me. I walked away with a lot
from this fight. It's` just another piece to the big puzzle.
With my
last fight, standing toe to toe with a muay thai world champ ,and
this fight being able to stuff 99% of a Shane's takedowns have really
confirmed to me that I'm on the right path and the puzzle is coming
together. So you'll be seeing a more well rounded fighter in future
fights.
KMA-Anything you would like to say to your MMA fans in
Hawaii?
Kaleo-Of course Thank You everyone for the support and aloha it really means
a lot to me, and don't forget to support the companies that support our
sport because they allow us to get the time to train and do what we
love to do. Much Mahalo's to Brit's autobody, unanimous clothing,
Hawaiian fight gear , Phiten , secret training. Oh yeah one more
thing
with all this crazy stuff going on in our own backyard, the baby Cyrus
and Janelle Tupuola incidents .We gotta get back to our roots
everybody and LIVE ALOHA. Cook rice not ice, that shit is killing the
people of Hawaii.
