I got an email from a Kauai girl who now lives in the Mainland.
Adriana said she reads this site every once in a while to see what's going
on. She is also engaged to Jens Pulver. Check out their site www.jenspuler.com.
KMA-Talk about your plans. Are you going to be fighting in Shooto, Pride
or some other organization.
Jens Pulver-Locked into pride for the next year
KMA-You were the first lightweight champion in the UFC. You were also
undefeated when you and the UFC parted ways. IMO they didn't treat
you right as far as compesation. Do you agree with this?
Jens Pulver-ummm, yeah i agree because i asked to be the highest paid in that division, i felt direspected that they were willing to pay more to others in that division than the actual champ.
What are your feelings towards BJ Penn. I understand you met him in
Vegas a while ago and asked him if he was going to give Matt Hughes a
rematch. There was also talk of you and BJ wanting a rematch. What
are your thoughts on these possible rematches?
Jens Pulver-yeah i am all for fighting penn again, i feel that before he fights me, he should at least go back and fight matt hughes (current champion) again, because i feel you cannot call yourself a champion untill you at least defend it once, anyone can by chance win a belt, and lose it the next fight, You should constantly be defending a position as a champion.
KMA-I understand your fiance is orginally from Kauai. Have you visited
the island yet?
Jens Pulver-yes, i got to go last year of july, after fighting stephen paling in shooto. i got to hang out with her family ;and i got to get some much needed rest after fighting paling, which was one of the toughest fights i have ever been in.It was without a doubt one of the greatest places i have ever been and would love to go back with her as soon as we can find some time.
KMA-Team Miletch has produced a lot of champions: You, Matt Hughes, Pat
Miletch, Jeremy Horn, Tim Sylvia. What sets team MFS from the other
teams?
Jens Pulver-The fact that alot of different styles are incorporated there. we all try to be very well rounded, rather than be great at one. because we come from a line of champions, we truly belive in what we are being taught by our coaches. Being in iowa and having that iowa wrestlin conditioning and work ethic, its like a mistic that we have to continue a tradition of hard work and a solid foundation of coaches.
KMA-I remember hearing in a UFC that you have a college degree but you
chose fighting for now. In the future what do you see yourself doing
after fighting?
My goal is to work with troubled kids. To be there for them like so many poeple were there for me.
KMA-Anything you want to say to your fans on Kauai?
without a doubt i am happy to see the sport grow, the one thing i appreciated about the islands is thier knowledge of the sport. They show respect when you earn it and they are motivating to make you want to get there respect,For that, i appreciate fighting in front of them.
