Interview Chris Brennan
By Robert Fain
KMA-How was your fight on Oahu against Mark Moreno?
Chris-Mark was tough on the feet, and he hit hard but I was able to submit him fairly quickly on the mat once we got there.
KMA-What did you think of the fights here on Kauai that you helped judge?
Chris-I thought they were very exciting. I was ring side and had a great time judging. I think I only needed to judge 2 fights out of the whole night because these guys came to finish the fight. The fighter that stood out most to me was Ed Nawalu. He looked fantastic.
KMA-Do you like fighting in Hawaii?
Chris-I love fighting in Hawaii. I have only done it twice but I love the fans and they are very supportive of me so that makes it nice. I think the Hawaiian's are great people and I hope to get to fight there a couple more times before retiring.
KMA-Are you going to be fighting in Pride again?
Chris-Well that is a tough question. I am in some sort of contract negotiation with them right now.
KMA-Talk about your fight with Gomi? Was that your hardest fight ever?
Chris-Well no it was not my hardest fight ever but it was my funnest fight ever. It was my first at 155 and he was the best in the world. It was a very action packed fight where we both had our moments in the fight. There were lots of position changes and it made a very exciting fight for the fans.
KMA-You have had a lot of fights. Does fighting a lot take a toll on you
or does it keep you sharp?
Chris-I think a little of both. It definitely takes it's toll on your body...Especially at 33 but it also keeps you sharp and on your game.
KMA-How long have you been training in the Martial Arts?
Chris-I have been training in Jiu-Jitsu 12 years this December, Kickboxing on and off through out that time and Wrestling even less :)
KMA-What is your typical training day like and what does your diet consist of?
Chris-Well when training for a fight I get up and do cardio first thin in the morning. Then I teach Jiu-Jitsu and roll a bit in class. In the afternoon my fight team trains and we go for almost 2 hours straight doing Thai Boxing, Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, Drills, Plyometrics, and all sorts of other grueling stuff. My diet sucks unless I am getting ready for a fight and then I am strict by the book no cheating.
KMA-How do you train differently for MMA events than you did for your BJJ
tournaments?
Chris-Well so far I haven't trained different at all because I haven't really trained specifically for a Submission event. I will start to soon though and I would imagine I would just remove the striking and continue with the Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. I won't train for points because I am never trying to win by points.
KMA-Thanks a lot for your time and good luck in your upcoming fights!
Chris-Thank you very much.
