Interview with Carlos Condit
KMA-First of all congratulation on your huge win over Charuto Verrissimo. You came into his house and beat him pretty impressively. Were you preparing to knee Charuto like that when he shot in or were you just reacting?
Carlos-Thanks for the kind words . I wasn’t looking for anything in particular when the knee landed , so I guess you could say “reacting” .
KMA-To be honest I never heard of you before your fight with
Charuto.
After looking up your fight record I was really impressed. You are
14-2 and none of your wins have gone the distance, many of them
ending early in the first round. Do you think you have finally
elevated your status to the top echelon of fighters?
Carlos-It’s looking that way . My last two fights were Renato Verissimo and Pete Spratt , both wins . It takes time and opportunity . I’m 21 yrs old , so I’ve got time , and now I’m getting the opportunities . Let’s see what happens from here .
KMA-What do you think of Frank Trigg? He is a very good wrestler and will
undoubtedly want to take you down ASAP. Do you think you will be able to keep your streak of stopping fighters via TKO or KO?
Carlos-Frank Trigg is an outstanding fighter , and I respect him as I do all my opponents . There’s no particular intent to keep a KO/TKO streak going , but yeah that would be cool . Whatever it takes , I want to win this fight .
KMA-Everyone knows you are an elite striker, how would you rate your ground skills?
Carlos-I’m a mixed martial artist , and I can do a little of everything .
KMA-How do you feel about the caliber of talent in the UFC? Do you feel
that you could make waves there like you did in ROTR?
Carlos-The UFC has some great fighters , as do other organizations . I fight wherever my trainers Tom and Arlene Vaughn , and my manager Phyllis Lee decide is best .
KMA-If you win the ROTR title would you like to challenge BJ Penn?
Carlos-No , challenging BJ Penn would be an arrogant thing to do .
KMA-Anything else you would like to say to the fans in Hawaii?
Carlos-Thanks for the warm reception . Everyone was so cool the whole time . I look forward to going back to the finals in April , and hope to see a sold out crowd for the event .
