Interview with Bo Lagmay 6/2005
This week I talked briefly to Bo Lagmay of Kauai Technical. Bo recently won a gold and Silver in the Hawaiian Open Jiu-Jitsu tournament even though he hasn't been training for long.
KMA-How long have you been training?
Bo-I have been training almost a year; off and on.
KMA-Talk about your matches? Where they harder than you expected?
Bo-This was my first tournament, so i was very nervous. In my first Gi match, we went into overtime and i won by being the aggressor. Then my second match, we both had take downs but he passed my half-guard so I lost: 2 to 5 to get the silver. My No Gi matches were mistakes, i was entered into the intermediate instead of the novice division. Instead of getting a refund i decided to just try it out since it was only 5 dollars. In my first No Gi match, i submitted my opponent by a triangle. My second match, i submitted my opponent by an armbar to win the gold.
KMA-What are your goals in Jiu-Jitsu? Are you interested in MMA in the future?
Bo-Well as for Jiu Jitsu, I recently received my Blue belt. One of my short term goals are to do well in NAGA and one of my Long term goals is to get a black belt. As for MMA, maybe in the distant future after I get a solid ground game.
Thanks for your time. Aloha,
Bo
